Pygmalion is about the transformation of an impoverished Eliza Doolittle by phonetic expert Henry Higgins into a woman fit for high society. This makes the play either a story of economic and social liberation or an example of the perpetuation of male control and self-interest.
Our version is the original as performed in 1916. Therefore, although it is just out of the Edwardian period, it will be costumed in the Edwardian fashion.

- Eliza Doolittle: 18-20
- Henry Higgins: 30-40.
- Colonel Pickering: a gentleman. 50-80
- Clara Eynsford-Hill: wealthy and fed up. Young.
- Freddy Eynsford-Hill: Clara’s brother. Young.
- Alfred Doolittle: Eliza’s father: dustman: 40s
- Mrs Higgins: Henry Higgins’ mother, 50s
- Mrs Eynsford-Hill: friend of Mrs Higgins, 50s.
- Mrs Pearce: Higgins’ housekeeper: 60-70.
- Mrs Higgins’ Parlour Maid: any age
- Sarcastic bystander: M/F. A small but vital role.
- A bystander: M/F. A small role but vital role.
