Act. Create. Belong.

At the Oast Theatre, young people aged 8-18 can be part of something special. Our two groups – The Hoppers (ages 8-13) and Oast Youth Theatre (ages 13-18) – offer a welcoming, creative community where friendships flourish, confidence grows and every young person is encouraged to shine.

Through inclusive and collaborative theatre-making, members discover the joy of self-expression, build resilience and develop a genuine sense of belonging.

The Hoppers (ages 8-13)

A lively introduction to drama where children of all abilities can let their imaginations run free through games, improvisation and storytelling. Sessions are full of laughter, creativity and teamwork, helping children grow in confidence, make friends and find their voice.
The year builds towards a Summer Show on the Oast stage: a proud, joyful moment where every child has the chance to succeed and be celebrated.

We meet every other Saturday during term time.

The Oast Youth Theatre (ages 13-18)

A vibrant, collaborative company where teenagers take creative ownership and bring stories to life together. Members act, devise, write and work backstage, gaining independence, leadership skills and real-world experience that supports their personal growth.

Each year we stage two or three plays, giving young people the excitement of the full production journey – from first rehearsal to opening night. Optional opportunities include residential workshops, theatre trips and occasional collaborations, including performances at the Edinburgh Fringe.

We meet mostly every other Thursday, with additional rehearsals during production periods, mostly on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays.

Recent shows include: Lord of the Flies, Second Person Narrative, The Three Musketeers, Brainstorm

What We Do

Across both groups, sessions spark curiosity and development through:

  • improvisation and drama games that build confidence and quick thinking
  • script work and devising that strengthen collaboration and creativity
  • character and scene creation that nurture empathy and emotional intelligence
  • voice and movement that encourage bold self-expression
  • backstage roles that foster responsibility, teamwork and technical skills

Young people are supported to try new roles, cheer each other on and work towards shared creative achievements.

How Much Does It Cost?

Membership is just £30 per year, with no show fees or uniforms required. Optional trips and residentials carry additional costs. We encourage members to support one another by attending performances, strengthening confidence and community connection.
